Our Curriculum & Learning Approach

Enriched by structured and intentional learning plans, and driven by a belief that children learn best when they don't know they're learning.

How Learning Happens at child

We blend structured lesson plans with child-initiated discovery for a rich, balanced programme.

Structured Learning Plans

Teachers create detailed daily plans that incorporate all the different learning areas pertaining to each age group to cover numeracy, literacy, and critical thinking. Our programme is aligned with the New Zealand Early Childhood Curriculum, Te Whāriki.

Child-Initiated Learning

We follow children's interests and curiosities, extending their ideas into deeper learning experiences, adapting our initial learning plan. When a child is engaged, learning is at its highest.

Individual Portfolios

Each child has a personal portfolio, hard copy as well as online documenting their achievements, learning stories, and progress — a treasured keepsake for families.

Creative Expression

Art, music, movement, and dramatic play are fundamental to our programme — giving children space to express themselves freely.

Outdoor Learning

Gardening, nature exploration, physical play, and sensory experiences in our purpose-built outdoor areas extend learning beyond the classroom.

School Readiness Programme

In Room 5, our oldest children participate in a comprehensive school readiness programme preparing them for a confident transition to primary school.

Our families consistently tell us their children transitioned to school effortlessly, arriving with strong literacy, numeracy, and social foundations.

The programme covers:

  • Literacy Letter recognition, early reading, name writing, and book skills
  • Numeracy Counting, number recognition, patterns, basic operations
  • Phonics Letter sounds, blending, rhyming, and sight words
  • Self-management Following instructions, managing belongings, time awareness
  • Social skills Working in groups, presenting ideas, conflict resolution
  • Independence Dressing, toileting, eating independently, and asking for help
