Our Policies & Practices
Comprehensive policies are in place to ensure every child is cared for in a safe, healthy environment.
Illness Policy
To protect all children and staff, we ask that unwell children stay home. Children must be symptom-free for at least 48 hours before returning after vomiting, diarrhoea, or a contagious illness.
Medication
We can administer medication with proper written authorisation. A signed medication authority form must be completed by the parent/caregiver before any medication is given.
Emergency Procedures
We are prepared for all emergency scenarios including fire, earthquake, and lockdown. These drills are practiced and carried out regularly. All registered teachers hold current first-aid certificates.
Security & Access
Your child's security is paramount. We operate a secure entry system, strict sign-in/sign-out procedures, and all staff are safety checked.
Sun Protection
We follow a comprehensive sun-safe policy. Sunblock is provided and applied before outdoor play, and children must wear hats during UV-risk months.
Hygiene & Cleaning
High standards of hygiene are maintained throughout. Professional cleaners are sanitised daily, with advanced HVAC air filtration and temperature-controlled rooms.
Food Safety
All meals are prepared by qualified chefs in a commercial kitchen. Dietary requirements and allergies are tracked and catered for, meeting MPI standards.
Safe Sleep
Our sleep practices follow safe sleep guidelines in dedicated, purpose-built sleep rooms with HVAC filtration, individual bedding, and regular sleep checks.
Staff Safety Standards
The safety of your child starts with the people we hire. Every team member at child meets rigorous standards:
- Police vetting Full police and safety checks completed before employment
- First aid All registered hold current first-aid certificates
- Qualifications Qualified and registered ECE teachers
- Ongoing training Regular professional development, including health & safety updates
- Child protection All staff are trained in recognising and reporting concerns under NZ child protection legislation

We are fully licensed and meet all regulatory requirements set by the New Zealand Ministry of Education for early childhood services.

We exceed regulated minimum teacher ratios and maintain staff qualifications, facilities, and safety practices well above the minimum requirements.
